Tamarind Institute receives major gift from Houston Fine Art Press
Tamarind Master Printer Richard Newlin, founder of Houston Fine Art Press, recently announced that he and his partner Yoko Saito would be closing the workshop and donating the majority of his equipment to Tamarind Institute. In March, Tamarind student printers traveled to Houston with Director of Education Brandon Gunn and Assistant Professor of Printmaking Karsten Creightney to pack up two truckloads of equipment. The gift of rollers, litho stones, flatfiles, fine papers, a Takach press, and additional printmaking equipment will significantly upgrade the holdings of the Tamarind workshop. Additionally, the gift will extend to Tamarind-trained printers and the UNM Printmaking department, helping to bolster the larger field of fine art lithography.
Tamarind Institute is grateful to Richard Newlin, Yoko Saito, and Houston Fine Art Press for their generosity and contributions to the field.
