Heath Science Center Orchestra

Arts-In-Medicine

The UNM Health Sciences Center Orchestra was created in 2013 as a collaboration between the UNM Health Sciences community and Arts-in-Medicine

It is housed in the Arts-In-Medicine program under the direction of Dr. Patrice Repar who has joint appointments in Internal Medicine and the Department of Music. The orchestra has a membership of around 60 people. Current musicians include UNM undergraduate and graduate students, faculty, staff and alumni predominantly in the Health Sciences, and community members, many of whom work in the health professions.

Mission

The mission of the HSCO is to provide a healing artistic outlet for UNM health sciences students, faculty and staff, health professionals and community members; and to share the joy of music with both people in the health sciences and the greater New Mexico community. The orchestra performs four concerts annually in a variety of settings, including the University of New Mexico Hospital, Keller Hall in the Center for the Arts, the Annual Donor Memorial Service and other Health Sciences Center and community events.

Interested Musicians

The Health Sciences Center Orchestra is always seeking additional musicians. We rehearse weekly throughout the academic year on Sunday nights from 6:30 – 9:00 pm in room B120 beneath Popejoy Hall in the Center for the Arts on the UNM campus. No audition is required to join the orchestra. Interested musicians need not be affiliated with UNM or the health professions. We typically perform four concerts per year with a repertoire of classical music and pops. For more information email us at unm.hsco@gmail.com

How You Can Support Us

The orchestra is composed entirely of amateur volunteer musicians. However, we do incur significant expenses including, paying our conductors, and buying music and miscellaneous supplies. Some money is raised through our concert bake sales, but we depend predominantly on charitable contributions which can be made in a variety of ways. The HSCO is a 501c3 organization and all donations are tax deductible.

Consider hiring our chamber groups for your social functions at a recommended donation of $50 per musician per hour.

Donations can be made by check payable to UNM Health Sciences Center Orchestra. Please include in the comments section: “Dedicate entirely to HSCO donations account.” or online.
