Advisement Center
Welcome to the Fine Arts Undergraduate Advisement Center
In the College of Fine Arts, our academic advisors collaborate with undergraduate students to assist in planning their educational, career, and life goals. A major role we serve is to help students learn about the degrees available in the College of Fine Arts and the requirements needed to reach graduation. By working with our advisors, students can discover how to access the variety of resources available to them on the UNM campus and learn skills needed to achieve academic success.
New students work with advisors during orientation and meet with an advisor in their first semester. After their first semester, students can choose when and how they connect with advisors. From orientation to graduation, we are here to support you!
Intentional and informed decisions lead to academic success! If you are an incoming first-year, transfer student, or someone who just wants to know more about our degrees, please feel free to contact us to help get started.

CFA Academic Advisement Staff
Beth Elkin (she/her)
Manager, Academic Advisement
I believe in a holistic and student-centered approach to advisement tailored to the individual student.
I was born and raised in Pennsylvania and attended college in New Hampshire as a first-generation student. I have worked at UNM since 2016 as an advisor, supervisor, and manager of academic advisement. I have a Master of Science in Academic Advising with a concentration in advising administration from Kansas State University and a Master of Arts in Liberal Studies from Dartmouth College.
Fun Fact: I love to mountain bike, kayak and hike!
Lauryn Gallimore (she/her)
Academic Advisor
I advise for all majors in the College of Fine Arts.
Hi! I’m Lauryn and I advise all majors in the College of Fine Arts.
I believe everyone’s a Lobo and that each of us defines all of us! I received my BS in Elementary Education here at UNM. While in undergrad, I was a New Student Orientation leader for 3 years and fell in love with all of the amazing resources UNM has to offer to students. My favorite part of my job is being able to connect with students and help them navigate their academic career.
Fun Fact: I’ve lived in 7 states here in the U.S
Naomi Jacobi (she/they)
Senior Academic Advisor
I advise for all majors in the College of Fine Arts.
I earned my BA in Philosophy from the University of New Orleans and MA in Philosophy from UNM. My path through undergrad was fairly unconventional, so I understand that education is rarely “one size fits all.” My favorite part of this position is helping empower students to be in charge of their education.
Fun fact: I enjoy biking, hiking and backpacking; this is definitely a big draw of living in the Southwestern US!
Alex Sanchez (he/him)
Academic Advisor
I advise for all majors.
I earned both my Bachelor’s and MBA here at UNM as a first-generation student. While in undergrad, I participated in SSS TRIO, and gained an understanding of the challenges that exist for underrepresented students and the importance of collaboration & mentoring. My favorite part of this job is partnering with students to leverage campus resources effectively and find solutions to the challenges they face.
Fun Fact: I love to read, collect records, and watch foreign films. I also love supporting my favorite soccer and basketball teams!
Erick Beltran Chavarria (he/him)
Academic Advisor
I advise for all majors in the College of Fine Arts.
I was born and raised in Albuquerque and I graduated from UNM as a first generation student with a bachelor’s of Business Administration. Throughout my life, every job I have held have always been centered around supporting and nurturing students. I’ve been a mentor at College Prep Programs, a mentor in New Student Orientation, and a teacher. I am happy to say that I am going to continue nurturing students and helping them tackle the jungle that is the college experience.
Fun fact: I love to cook, draw, and paint!
