UNM Music alumna achieves prestigious accolade in German vocal technique
Lauren Humble, who graduated from The University of New Mexico in 2016 with a Bachelor of Music Education with a vocal emphasis, has successfully completed an intensive three-year program at the CJD Schule Schlaffhorst-Andersen in Bad Nenndorf, Germany and now bears the title staatlich geprüfte Atem-, Sprech- und Stimmlehrerin (state-certified breath, speech, and voice teacher and therapist) utilizing the Schlaffhorst-Andersen method of breath, voice, and body work.
Humble studied voice under Professor Leslie Umphrey, now Professor Emerita, and was actively involved in the Department of Music life as a singer and choral assistant.
Upon finishing her degree, Humble moved to Berlin to study the German language. She taught music in German in the public and private school systems to groups and individuals and continued her vocal studies.
Due to her many-faceted experiences with singing and the voice, Humble has chosen to specialize in working with the singing voice and, starting in August, will take on a new role at the school of her studies, CJD Schule Schlaffhorst-Andersen, where she will be employed as a singing teacher and will teach Schwingen classes: a movement exercise specific to the concepts of Schlaffhorst-Andersen.
Additionally, she will be living and working in Hannover as a freelancer, working pedagogically, artistically, and therapeutically with the voice and writing about voice-related topics. Find out more about Humble on her blog.
