Stacia has been Costume shop supervisor with UNM’s Department of Theatre & Dance since 2006, teaching technical costume courses within the design area.
An artist of diverse interests and talents, Stacia is experienced in a variety of interdisciplinary fields including photography, mixed media and costume design.
In 2019 she received an artist residency, The Creative Gesture; Designing for Dance, at the BANFF Centre for Arts and Creativity in Canada. There she was able to explore concepts and techniques within costume design for dance and work with other designers from around the world. Her love of designing for dance has continued to be a driving force within her creative work. More recently Stacia has designed flamenco costumes for choreographers Mercedes Ruíz and Lidón Patiño-Berja which were showcased in the UNM Faculty Dance concert in 2020 and 2022.
Her lastest passion project has been working for a native owned online company, 4kinship, where she does visual mending, tailoring and textile restoration on vintage garments and textiles. This upcycling movement is meant to give new life to vintage clothing, in order to combat the “fast fashion industry” and their devastating effects on the environment. Lastly, Stacia is proud to have worked on many upcycled vintage pieces for singer/songwriter Jewel’s 2022 tour.
