Andrew Kishman

MFA Dramatic Writing

Andrew Kishman writes independent movies and television. He draws on his former life as a pastor and a community organizer for inspiration. The subjects of his screenplays include the life of an inner-city church, the writing of the first Gospel (as a piece of literary fiction), a couple “wokester” coming of age stories, and an Elizabeth Warren fundraiser turned Marxist kidnapping.

Andrew was raised in Vermillion, Ohio. He has a B.A. in philosophy from Grinnell College, an M.Div from Union Theological Seminary, and an A.A. in film production from Santa Fe Community College. As the pastor of Miller Avenue UCC in Akron, he started the non-profit organization, Students With A Goal.

His favorite writers are Paul Thomas Anderson, Terrence Malick, Jesse Armstrong and Mike Judge. Like them, he aspires to write stuff that’s earthy enough to offend academics and artistic enough to not yet be normative in Hollywood.
