The Ghost Sonata (Spöksonaten), written by August Strindberg, premiered in 1907, tells the story of a young student who, after spending the whole night rescuing the wounded in a fire, meets a mysterious man named Hummel. Hummel introduces him to a seemingly bright world of values when he enters an aristocratic house.
