Paloma and Leila: A Tale of Twin Triumph

As twins, they’ve encountered hurdles, yet their bond and resilience shine through.

In the academic world, Paloma and Leila worked under the mentorship of Professor Subhankar Banerjee on a project involving biodiversity justice and visual culture through the UNM Center for Environmental Arts and Humanities (CEAH). Paloma and Leila were attentive, sincere and rigorously engaged when they attended Banerjee’s spring 2023 class, he wrote.

The pair’s project – a suite of postcards exploring the relationship between human and nonhuman life – will be included in a 2026 book and exhibition called “Coexistence: Biodiversity in New Mexico,” co-produced by CEAH and the Albuquerque Museum, Banerjee wrote.”

Tamarind welcomes the invitation to exhibit recent work in the historically significant and stunning Quinta Gallery at Los Poblanos this summer. This exhibition features original lithographs from the Tamarind collection including works by Maja Ruznic, Emmi Whitehorse, Matt Shlian, June Wayne and Brian Rea. Tamarind Institute shares with Los Poblanos a passion for state-of-the-art craftmanship. There are a variety of opportunities to view the exhibit and learn more about Tamarind’s essential role in the world of lithography.
GALLERY OPENING RECEPTION – Tuesday, June 4, 6 – 8 PM
Celebrate the opening of the 2024 Tamarind Summer Season at Los Poblanos. This event is free to the public and inn guests and no reservations are required.
Remarks from Tamarind and Los Poblanos will begin at 6:30 pm. Drinks will be available for purchase from the Library Bar and light hors d’oeuvres will be provided.

Join us for a conversation with Kylee Aragon-Wallis, Gallery Director at Tamarind, and Emmi Whitehorse, renowned Navajo artist based in Santa Fe.

EXHIBIT OPEN HOURS – The La Quinta Gallery will be open to the public from 5 – 10 PM on the following dates: June 18, July 2, July 23, August 6, and August 27.
A member of Tamarind’s gallery staff will be on-site from 5 – 6:30 PM to answer questions about the artwork and lithography printmaking process. Drinks will be available for purchase from the Library Bar.
