Darci Balkcom is a voice teacher, Alexander Technique teacher, and performer living in Albuquerque, New Mexico. She has a bachelor’s and master’s in vocal performance from the University of New Mexico. Darci is a certified Alexander Technique teacher through the Alexander Alliance and Alexander Technique International. Teaching on the faculty for Total Vocal Freedom, an online and retreat-based Alexander Technique program for singers, Darci has taught singers around the world. Recently, Darci taught Alexander Technique workshops for vocalists internationally in Berlin, Mexico, Montecito Music Festival, University of New Mexico, New Mexico All-State, University of Texas El Paso, University of Alaska, NATS Rio Grande Chapter, and Santa Fe Opera. Darci specializes in acting for singers and has published work on this in NYSTA VOICEPrints. Honing her teaching experience, Darci was on faculty and vocal program chair at New Mexico School for the Arts for six years. During that time Darci enjoyed directing and co-directing several musicals and scenes shows including Fiddler on the Roof and Once Upon a Mattress. Darci enjoys teaching musical theatre at the University of New Mexico in the theatre department. Her passion for Alexander Technique has led her to teach for two Alexander technique teacher training programs, the Total Vocal Freedom training and the Contemporary Alexander School.

As a professional performer, Darci has sung oratorio and opera with groups such as Boulder Symphony, New Mexico Philharmonic, Santa Fe Desert Chorale, New Mexico Polyphony and Quintessence. In 2009, she had her international debut with La Musica Lirica in Novafeltria, Italy. Her most notable opera and musical theatre roles include Florence Pike in Albert Herring, Dido in Dido and Aeneas, Mercedes in Carmen, Terentia in Beautiful Bridegroom, Miss Pinkerton in the Old Maid and the Thief, Cherubino in Le Nozze de Figaro, and Nellie Forbush in South Pacific. Darci has been the featured mezzo soloist in Mozart’s Mass in C, Hadyn’s Lord Nelson Mass, Bach’s Magnificat, Vivaldi’s Gloria, Bach’s Cantata 161, Beethoven’s Mass in C. Darci has studied with renowned teachers and coaches such as, Olga Perez Flora, Michael Hix, Kristin Ditlow, Nina Hinson, Adriana Hardy, Neil Rosenshein, and Leslie Umphrey.
