Audition for the Dance Major at UNM!

The Bachelor of Arts in Dance presents a broad perspective on dance training within a liberal arts context. Students completing the B.A. in Dance are well prepared to pursue both graduate work and professional careers in Dance Education, Dance History/Criticism, and Dance Performance. The B.A. has two areas of concentration: Contemporary Dance and Flamenco.

Auditions to be accepted as a Dance Major occur on the last Friday in January each year

Auditions will start at 10:00 at the Elizabeth Waters Center for The Arts in Carlisle Gym, with the following schedule:

  • 10:00 / 10:30 – Ballet Barre;
  • 10:35 / 11:05 – Modern/Contemporary floor/center combinations;
  • 11:10 / 11:40 – Flamenco;
  • 11:45 / 12:15 – Improvisation;
  • 12:30 / 16:00 – Within 10 minutes intervals. Solo presentations and brief interview.

Dancers are encouraged to arrive at 9:30 am to complete any necessary written form and must be prepared to present a 1 minute long dance solo in the style of their choice.

 

 

How to Apply

• All students must be admitted to the University, whether as an incoming freshman, transfer student, or non-degree student. Apply online through the Admissions Department at UNM

•After meeting all CFA admission requirements, students must apply to become a declared major.
