Alejandro Tomás Rodriguez is an Argentinean actor, theatre director, teacher, singer and songwriter. In 2001 he obtained his BFA in Acting and pursued graduate studies in art theory at the Theatre and Puppet School of Rosario, Argentina. His field of expertise includes devised theatre, community engagement, voice work, movement, Latinx performance and diverse styles of collective creation within contemporary performance practice.

He has dedicated a great part of his artistic life and research to the work on traditional songs, and the exploration of the human potentials within the frame of the actor’s craft. From 2007 to 2015, he worked at the Workcenter of Jerzy Grotowski and Thomas Richards (Pontedera, Italy). He was one of the key members of the Open Program team directed by Mario Biagini. There, Rodriguez become deeply embedded in the work of Konstantin Stanislavski and refined his practical and theoretical understanding of Stanislavski’s method of physical actions. Rodriguez considers the method of physical actions a crucial approach to acting because it precedes aesthetics and theatrical styles.

Rodriguez’s creative capacities and the artistic relation he developed over the years with Mario Biagini brought him to first assist Biagini and subsequently to teach in prestigious institutions in Europe, Asia, and the Americas, such as Stanford University, Yale University, York University, Shanghai Theater Academy, University of Toronto, Association de Recherche des Traditions de l’Acteur (ARTA), New York University, Théâtre National de Bretagne (TNB), The City University of New York (CUNY).

While at the Workcenter, Rodriguez met the exceptional young Parisian musician Robin Gentien. Continuing the exploration of the human potential through songs and rhythms, the two created the band QUIETO (ex-ENGINE). With Latin American rhythms, and rock dynamics, the six-piece band has a powerful theatrical presence and personality. QUIETO released studio and live albums, singles, and video clips. Fuego was released in 2022. More recently Rodriguez launched his solo music project Ale.R, under the framework of which he produces beats and sing, in collaboration with international producers and beatmakers from France, Argentina and United States.

In 2012, after the first visit of the Workcenter to Argentina, he began a fertile collaboration with a group of actors that later became a theater ensemble Casa Talcahuano. In 2016, Rodriguez moved from Italy to Buenos Aires to work as artistic director of Casa Talcahuano. Working with Casa Talcahuano he directed the theatrical-sung-devised performance Oda a los Desterrados, and also developed innovative pedagogical programs based on acting and singing. The artistic and pedagogical work of Casa Talcahuano was documented by Canadian filmmaker Trevor Meier in his film “Cántame”.

Currently he is in the process of creating Los Pibes Bien, a devised-documentary-fictional performance on drug trafficking and gun violence in Rosario, Argentina.
