Professor, Szu-Han Ho, Receives 2026 Asian Cultural Council Grant for Research in Taiwan
The award will support Ho’s upcoming sabbatical research in Taiwan, where they will continue exploring contemporary sound art, experimental music, and cross-cultural artistic exchange.
The ACC’s 2026 grant cycle supports artists, scholars, and arts professionals working across Asia and the United States, encouraging international dialogue and collaboration through the arts. Ho’s project focuses on deepening their understanding of Taiwanese sound art while building connections between artists in Taiwan and New Mexico.
During their time abroad, Ho will immerse themselves in Taiwan’s contemporary sound and experimental music communities by meeting with artists, curators, and scholars; attending workshops and performances; visiting galleries, museums, and artist-run spaces; and creating field recordings of local soundscapes. Their travels will include research and conversations with artists along Taiwan’s west coast, as well as time spent connecting with Indigenous artists and communities on the east coast.
Through practices of deep listening and collaborative exchange, Ho hopes to foster ongoing relationships between sound artists in Taiwan and practitioners in New Mexico, opening possibilities for future creative partnerships and shared projects.
