$7/5/3. UNM Opera Theatre has doubled its size and is bursting at the seams with future stars. Join our young artists as they launch their Fall Opera Season with a double bill. Introducing Leslie Umphrey as director, the new face of Opera Studio will paint vibrant scenes and over-the-top fun. While Opera Theatre will continue its tradition of excellence in grand opera at the highest professional level. Gian Carlo Menotti’s irresistible opera The Old Maid and the Thief will be the featured work. For at least a generation in the years following World War II, Menotti was the most prolific and acclaimed American composer of opera. His sense of theatre stemmed from his Italian background. Menotti has always evidenced an exceptional musical flexibility and understanding of character and situation. Join opera devotees for an evening of sparkling lyricism. Suitable for children.
