ACADEMIC ADVISEMENT FAQ

Who is my College of Fine Arts (CFA) advisor?
The College of Fine Arts has both professional staff advisors as well as faculty advisors to assist you in your academic and career pursuits. Please go here for a complete list of advisors for the College of Fine Arts. Students are strongly advised to meet with a professional staff advisor at least once a semester. Students may also be required to meet with a faculty advisor in their department each semester as well.

How can I meet with my College of Fine Arts advisor?
The professional staff advisors in the Fine Arts Advisement Office meet with students during open walk-in advisement hours. In order to meet with a faculty advisor, it is recommended that you email them to make an appointment or visit them during office hours.

What should I do to prepare for my appointment?
Develop a list of topics and questions you want to discuss and bring it with you to your advisement meeting. If you plan to discuss your schedule for an upcoming semester, bring degree audits and progress sheets with you. Degree audits can be obtained from LoboWeb. Students who have been issued an advisement portfolio MUST bring it with them to every meeting with their advisor. Remember, as a student you are responsible for your own education. Your advisors are there to advise you of your options and assist you in navigating the education system.

Where do I go for my appointment?
Check in with the receptionist in the Fine Arts Advisement Office when you are coming to meet with a staff advisor in room 1103 in the Center for the Arts. If you are meeting with the pre-major advisor, you must check in with the receptionist in the University College Advisement Center.

What if just have a quick question?
You may call the Fine Arts Advisement Office at 505-277.4817 or email an advisor directly. Please see the full list of advisors here.

When is it OK to email my advisor with a question?
First, try to find the answer through resources such as the UNM Catalog, the UNM and CFA websites.
